Title: Laban for Actors and Dancers
Author: Newlove, Jean
Price: $25.99

A handbook, complete with graded exercises, for teachers and students wanting a practical introduction to Laban's famous system of movement.

Rudolf Laban is to movement what Stanislavski is to acting. He devised the first wholly successful system for recording human movement, a system which is increasingly influential in the training of actors and dancers.

See also Laban for All, a basic 'how to' book on Laban from the same author.

Jean Newlove was Laban's assistant when he came to England as a refugee in 1938. She became movement teacher at Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop, and stayed for 15 years, marrying the co-founder, Ewan MacColl. (Their daughter was Kirsty MacColl.) Since then she has taught Laban's ideas at the RSC and on courses all over the world. She is the author of Laban for Actors and Dancers (NHB); John Dalby is a voice teacher, writer and performer, who assisted at Laban's early courses.
