This book is essentially an expansion of Marcia McCallum's Phonetic Reader (Book 1) which it supersedes. The exercises from that book have been expaneded and re-arranged and an expository text has been added which, we hope, will form a simple but up-to-date introduction to the theoretical understanding of phoentics and of its application in language-description.
